YRG
CARE started its medical unit in January 1994 as an outpatient
facility to provide medical and psychosocial care to persons
living with HIV infection. In
1995, an inpatient facility was added. This facility is the
first of its kind in Southern India. Currently, over
5000 persons with HIV infection are followed by YRG CARE for
clinical and psychosocial care. |

- Out-patient clinics: Monday - Saturday: 9.30 am
to 3.30 pm
- 24-hr inpatient facility with 21 beds
- Nutritional counselling facilities
- Laboratory
facilities for the following:
- HIV diagnosis
- Diagnosis of opportunistic infections, sexually
transmitted infections, HBV, HCV
- CD4 cell count and Plasma viral load assays
- In house subsidised Drug

The
YRG CARE Medical Centre within the VHS Hospital campus in
Taramani, Chennai. The VHS is a 500-bed hospital with all
medical and surgical specialities, as well as round-the-clock
access to the blood bank and the X-ray department. Facilities
are also available for people with HIV infection to undergo
tests like ultrasonograms, surgical procedures and deliver
children (labour facilities). YRG CARE works with Sankara
Nethralaya to care for patients with ophthalmic complaints
and with Ragas Dental College
for oral health and dental disorders. It also offers several
support programmes for persons with HIV. |
