The
drug centre, which dispenses anti-retrovirals, vitamins and
drugs for other opportunistic infections on a sliding cost
scale, was established with financial support from the Elton
John Foundation through a Family Health International (FHI)
rapid assistance programme. |

| Support from Global
Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM): |
YRG CARE receives
support from GFATM to extend medical care to expand
access to Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy (HAART)
for people living with HIV/AIDS through an unique Public-Private
partnership model.
Over the next four years, YRG CARE will make available
HAART to five thousands patients. Patients on HAART
will receive medication either free of cost or buy the
medicines according to their affordability. In order
to provide medicines free and also with a substantial
subsidy to the deserving patients, we have devised a
mechanism called “Graduated Cost Recovery”
that functions as follows: |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Tier l:
Zero percent recovery of the cost of medicines from
patients who are below poverty line.
|
Tier ll:
Recovery of 50% of the cost from patients who have low
income. |
Tier lll:
Recovery of 75% of the cost from patients who have middle
income. |
Tier lV:
Recovery of 100% of the price of the drugs from the
patients who have high income. |
The free
supply of drugs and 50% subsidy for l and ll tier patients,
would be met with the cost recovered from Tier lll and
Tier lV.
YRG CARE has also planned to operate 15 community pharmacies
all over Tamil Nadu to extend easy acces of drugs to
the patients so that their traveling expenses are saved
and gainfully utilized for other essential expenses.
Easy access of drugs would also help them to adhere
to the therapy. |
