Dr. Krause Dedicates ‘The Royapuram Clinic’

"The Royapuram Clinic," opened on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at premises no.15/7, M S Koil Street, Royapuram, Chennai 600 013 will fulfill a felt need to provide health care at most affordable costs to the communities of North Chennai. This initiative comes from a team of committed clinicians at YRG CARE.

The Clinic will provide a unique registration card to patients and maintain a comprehensive electronic database. The facility will include laboratory and pharmacy services. Annual registration fee will be Rs. 20 only. The clinic will arrange various visiting specialists to be available for consultation at an affordable fee of Rs. 20 per consultation. All patients will receive free of cost blood sugar test, blood pressure measurement and urine analysis during the registration visit and annually thereafter.

Dr. Richard M Krause, MD from National Institutes of Health, USA dedicated the Clinic in the presence of Professor M Naganathan, Vice Chairman, Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission to the memory of the late Dr. Solomon Victor, noted cardiac surgeon and an enthusiastic champion of preventive health care. Dignitaries present on the occasion included professor S P Thyagarajan, Vice Chancellor, Madras University.

While talking to the media persons on the occasion, Dr. Krause said preventive measures are more advisable than providing costly latest medical facilities for countries like India. Prevention keeps off people from most of the diseases that could develop in later years, necessitating prolonged and intensive medical treatment that is expensive, he added.

India has made commendable progress in all spheres since his first visit in late nineteen sixties, yet lot of things including full fledged healthcare in rural areas remain to be addressed, Dr. Krause observed.
