The Tsunami laid waste hundreds of villages along the coastline of Tamil Nadu state. YRG CARE has been involved in a project among the fishing communities of 4 villages near Chennai. To mount a quick and focused relief effort, YRG CARE staff and volunteer teams undertook a field survey among the affected families to understand their exact requirements. Based on this needs assessment, YRG CARE has started to distribute a relief kit consisting of the following:

• A trunk/steel box
• Cooking utensils
• Stove
• Sack of rice
• New clothing for the family
• Sleeping mats
• Blankets
• Toiletries
• Other domestic essentials
• Notebooks for student children
