| Tireless Run from Poverty!! |
 |
 |
Michael Little continued his fund-raising appeals on Sunday
11th June 2006 by completing the Edinburgh Marathon wearing
a pair of Indian pajamas! Michael wore a ‘Kurta Pajama’,
from Southern India, a traditional matching pair of shirt
and loose fitting trousers, usually worn as part of traditional
every-day dress in many Asian communities.
Michael’s 26.2 mile marathon run through the historic
Scottish city was part of his current ‘Run from Poverty’
campaign, raising funds for the YR Gaitonde Centre for AIDS
and Research Education (YRG CARE). Earlier this year he took
part in the Liverpool Half Marathon and expects to close the
appeal with a further Half Marathon run in Cardiff this October.
The Edinburgh Marathon course included an extinct volcano,
Edinburgh’s ancient castle and magnificent coastline,
including the Royal Yacht Britannia.
Michael has said, ‘Where-ever, when-ever I run I am
aware of the dozens of people all over the UK who have supported
my campaign and the desperate need of the people in India
and other developing areas of the world that we are able to
help. The running represents the urgency I feel to act and
to help alleviate poverty wherever it may be found. We must
never give up until we achieve greater equality for all mankind-
however great the mission, that is the finish line’.
Michael joined some 8,000 competitors in the Edinburgh Marathon,
who braved the blistering conditions, as temperatures reached
73F . So far Michael has raised almost £600 towards
his £1,000 target and welcomes further sponsors. All
monies raised will be donated to YRG CARE, India and a new
Children’s Medical Centre in Uganda (both are registered
charities).
