The Y. R. G. Centre for AIDS Research & Education (YRGCAREARE) was formed in 1993 within the Y.R. Gaitonde Medical, Educational and Research Foundation, a public charitable trust. Dr.Suniti Solomon, the Founding Director of the Centre is a retired Professor of Microbiology from the Madras Medical College. In 1986, her laboratory documented the first evidence of HIV in India. Under Dr. Suniti Solomon's leadership, YRGCARE has grown by leaps and bounds.
YRGCARE has a team of dedicated and motivated staff whose mission to respond to needs of people who are not receiving care and support or education/information for HIV. YRGCARE has an able human resource team that is are highly committed, capable and qualified to respond to the HIV pandemic. The number of persons working at YRGCARE has grown several folds since its inception. Volunteers, from India and abroad, complement the core staff and provide the much needed helping hand that any charitable trust requires.
